Trinseo S.A. (NYSE: TSE), a global materials company and manufacturer of plastics, latex binders and synthetic rubber, is supporting the Process Safety Learning Initiative of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) with a donation of $50,000.
“Trinseo and other leading chemical companies have extensive process safety programs to prevent catastrophic incidents,” said Chris Pappas, President and CEO of Trinseo. “But many chemical engineering graduates enter the workforce without much exposure to process safety education. This new initiative by AIChE will integrate process safety into the curricula of university chemical engineering programs, which ultimately will result in fewer incidents and safer work places.”
“Trinseo is proud to be part of this effort to educate future generations of chemical engineers,” said Pappas. “This effort is in line with our company’s values, our commitment to Responsible Care®, and our dedication to work safely in everything we do.”
The goal of the AIChE Process Safety Learning Initiative is to have 100% of graduating bachelor-degree chemical engineers prepared to enter the workforce with a working knowledge of process safety. While, this is an ambitious goal to be implemented over time, integrating process safety education into AIChE’s global network of student members and university partnerships will ultimately help shape the profession and positively impact society for decades to come.
The three core components of the Process Safety initiative, which will be run by the AIChE’s Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS), are: modernizing and developing curriculum; educating faculty; and engaging and educating students. The initiative is part of a $9 billion global effort that will define how the next generation of chemical engineers is prepared for the future.
Trinseo’s donation will be spread over 2016 and 2017.
